Ocklawaha River CleanupGores Landing to Eureka March 24, 2012

Today was the second part of our clubs Ocklawaha river clean-up. We cleaned the section from Gores Landing to Eureka. Wayne Tyo volunteered to be the trip coordinator for today. We had a total of seven that turned out to lend a hand and of course their boats for the trash. I thank them all so much. The shuttle and launch from Gores Landing went smooth. This part of the river had a lot less trash than the first part had, so we had more time to enjoy the paddling and the sights. Still we were able to collect the usual assortment of cans, bottles, paper, bobbers and fish-line. We also hauled in a few larger items that were metal and rusty. The weather was just perfect for a work detail. As always it was refreshing to be in the great outdoors. Time doesn't seem to matter at all and the air had a sweet fragrance of flowers and pine. The sights of birds, plants, the sky the sun and the feel of the gentle breeze was worth getting out of bed for. I'm so glad I didn't miss it. If you haven"t paddled with us lately don't wait any longer. Come on out and indulge in some good clean fun. It's great exercise to. It's always optional to go out to eat afterward. Some of us did get a bite to eat at Wise Guys Pizza before heading home...Sandie
