Ocklawaha River Cleanup

Ray's Wayside to Gores Landing
March 10, 2012
I'd like to thank each and everyone of the 19 people who came out today and made this river clean-up a huge success.  We had members and non-members who choose to make our waterways a better place for us and the wildlife.
Our day started at 9 am as we met at Ray's Wayside Park.  We signed in and began our shuttle to Gores Landing.  With the shuttle completed we launched.  As expected, most of the garbage was found at the bridge shortly after the launch.  Wayne Tyo placed his truck at the Wilderness Campground so we could leave the garbage behind and continue down the river.  A big thanks to the people at Wilderness Campground for their help again this year.  Thanks to Wayne for the use of his truck.
Some of our volunteers walked the woods along the river to pick up litter not reachable from the boats.  We retrieved bottles, cans, paper, shoes, fishing line, broken fishing poles, bobbers and lots of other items, all of which did not belong in the waterways.
Our clean-up ended at Gores Landing and the last of the volunteer's exited the river at 4:30 pm.  We cleaned the river but enjoyed the paddle as well.  To end our day some of us went to eat at Fat Boys Barbecue. ...Sandie
